Abstract
COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES ON THE RIVER OF BARTIN
The purpose of this paper is to study the commercial activities on the river of Bartın for centuries. Another objective of the study is to reveal the relationship between trading transactions on the river of Bartın and development of the Bartın city. Bartın is one of the youngest provinces of Turkey. But it is a settlement that has not been adequately researched in terms of historic and cultural view. From the commercial activities point of view, one of the most mobile areas of the North-West Anatolia region. Nonetheless, there has not been a serious study on the trading transactions on the river of Bartın in the scientific sense. Bartın has a dynamic structure that develops quickly today. Accordingly, it is necessary to expose its historical heritage. In this context, new works which examine this area from many different fronts such as historical, sociological, and cultural must be produced. Therefore this study has been formed both to contribute to the local culture in scientific front and to investigate the commercial transactions on the river of Bartın for centuries.<
