Abstract
A DERİVATİONAL AFFİX WHOSE FUNCTİONALİTY İNCREASES: +( )Ş
There are four different approaches about the name-to-name making suffix in the sources. The first group of sources did not include the suffix. The second group of sources implied that the suffix is not commonly used. The third group of sources did not give any opinion about the common usage of the suffix. The fourth group of sources emphasized that the suffix is used intensively.
The reason for these different opinions of researchers about suffix is the functionality of the suffix. The frequency of use of suffix and the number of words that the suffix derives are the basic elements that determine the functionality of a suffix. Since there is no certain number and limit regarding the frequency of use and the number of derived words, different approaches have emerged in the sources regarding the suffix. In this aspect, functionality is relative. In addition, the common usage of suffix has increased in the last sixty years. The change in the status of the suffix has also caused sources to have different approaches to the suffix.
The types of words that the suffix derives, what meanings it adds to the words to which it is added, with which suffixes it is used more intensively, and the changes in the word and the suffix when it is added to the words, were discussed with examples. More than a hundred words that are derived from the suffix + ( )ş are included in the headings discussed in the study. Based on this number of examples, it has been emphasized that the name-to-name suffix +( )ş is commonly used.
