Abstract
RELIGIOS TERMS IN LUĠAT-İ ÇAĠATAY VE TÜRKÎ-İ OSMÂNÎ
In the early years of the Republic, scanning written sources and compiling from local dialects were used as a method of gaining vocabulary in the current Turkish dictionary and current usage.
Not all of the scanned and compiled words, but some of them have come to life again, are permanent. It is also possible to change the method slightly and draw attention to those words by working on words related to a particular field in a work.
In 1882, Sheikh Süleyman Efendi prepared the dictionary “Lugat-i Çağatay and Türkî-i Osmânî” in order to strengthen the communication between the eastern and western Turks. The Author of the dictionary was a postniche at the Uzbek Tekke in Istanbul. In this respect, it is thought that the author is familiar with religious terms.
All of these aroused the idea that religious terms would be intense in “Lugat-i Çağatay and Türkî-i Osmânî” and that some of these words could be used today.
In the first part of the study, information about Chagatai literature, Chagatai dictionaries and “Lugat-i Çağatay and Türkî-i Osmânî” are given. In the second part, the religious terms in the dictionary are discussed together with their meanings and it is examined whether these terms are in the first Turkish dictionary or DLT. In the conclusion part, some evaluations and inferences were made about the subject.
