Abstract
A Political Foundation in Medieval Dagestan: The Kingdom of Sarir
Existed during the 6th and 12th centuries, the Kingdom of Sarir, literally meaning the owner of throne, can be called the first political association of Northern Caucasus which has also accommodated many people of contemporary Dagestan like Avars, Laks and Lezgians. Christian Sarirs and Alans have made an alliance against Khazars. Also, the kingdom of Sarir has continuously struggled with Arabs and Shirvanshah attacks. Weakened through these attacks and the Mongol invasion, the Kingdom of Sarir has collapsed towards the end of 12th century.
