Abstract


Farm-Foundations of Hacı Selim Giray Khan I
Inclusion of the Crimean Khanate to the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century influenced political order and social life of the country. Ottoman style was influencial in state administration and land owning. Crimean khans used to be assigned by Ottoman sultans, and likewise, were discharged from the throne in their acts contrary to the state interests. Dismissed Crimean khans and their families used to live in places determined by the Ottoman government, usually around Silivri, Çatalca, Vize and Lüleburgaz in today Turkish Thrace, and Yanbolu, Fındıklı, Karinâbâd, İslimye (Sliven), Zağra (Stara Zagora), Zağra Yenicesi (Nova Zagora) and Şumnu (Shumen) in todays Bulgaria. Having real estates and other revenues there, they used their wealth as they wanted, and founded palaces, baths, fountains, and mosques, together with foundations. This article tells about Selim Giray Khan I (1671-1704) and his farm-foundadions in Silivri. <
