Abstract

The Vocabulary of Men in the Old Uighur Civil Documents
This study deals with the male vocabulary in the Old Uighur Civil Documents, which are about the non-religious texts of the Old Uighurs. For this purpose, all the texts in the Uighur Civil Documents were carefully scanned, and the findings about the male vocabulary obtained as a result of this scanning were titled with a certain classification method. According to this, two basic groups have been formed as the male vocabulary that can be accessed directly and the vocabulary that can be accessed from the context of the text (not directly accessible to masculine knowledge). The obtained vocabulary information is also grouped within itself. In the first title, basic kinship names, title names and names related to religious terminology used for men are shown. In the second title, the male vocabulary, which is provided by the indirect expression used for male, is included based on the context of the text. Each of the detected words was compared with the runic texts and the Old Uighur text inventory on religion, and it was examined whether the previously existing male vocabulary has changed in the Old Uighur Civil Documents, which were discussed in terms of semantics. Again, for each word, examples from written sources belonging to Old Turkic were given and its etymology was explained, and in this way, it was observed in which language the concept of male was mostly met in the Old Uighur community life. This study, which does not aim to reflect cultural codes due to male vocabulary in non-religious Old Uighur contract texts, aims to contribute to vocabulary studies.
