Abstract


Georgian-Turkish Reading Book Compiled in Georgia in 18th Century
Georgia's relationship with the Turkish world dates back to ancient times. Relationships that have lasted for centuries have also conditioned the relations between Georgian culture and language and the cultures and languages of the Turkish world. One of the areas where these relations are seen is the field of Turkish learning and teaching in Georgia. It is a matter of curiosity from which sources teaching and learning Turkish is made. This article focuses on the introduction of the Georgian-Turkish Reading Book, which was compiled in Georgia in the 18th century for teaching Turkish, and how some phonetic and lexicological facts in the book were received in Georgian. The Georgian sources referring to the manuscript, which was examined with the comparative, historical linguistics method, were determined and the data of the manuscript were compared. From the Greek letter in the manuscript, it is estimated that the work may have been written by Ioakime Protosingelos, who came to Georgia from [Southern] Cyprus and settled in Vardzia and lived there. t was concluded that the work written in Georgian Mhedruli alphabet was written between 1780-1790 in the 18th century. In addition, it has been determined which phonetic bases will be used when translating Turkish words into Georgian. The findings of the article will shed light on the relations between Turkish-Georgian languages and the history of Turkish teaching in Georgia.
