Abstract


Language of Tevârîh-i Güzîde-i Nusret-nâme of the Era of Chagatay Turkish (The British Library Issue)
Mongolian history and their great commander, Genghis Khan, have attracted the attention of many researchers from past to present, and many works have been written about him. The works written about the birth, life, personality, family, genealogy and conquests of the Mongolian ruler Genghis Khan are called "Genghis-nama". Tevârîh-i Güzîde-i Nusret-nâme, which is the subject of this article, is a historical study written in prose, created in the period of Chagatay Turkish. There is information in the catalog record and content of the work concluding that it is written in the 16th century. It is not specified by whom the work is written. There are two copies of the work. The copy we are working on is kept in the British Library in London. The book consists of 149 sheets. The main subject of the work is shaped around the life of Genghis Khan. In addition, detailed explanations were made about the Epic of Oghuz Khan, Turkish and Mongolian tribes and Genghis Khan's genealogy. Although this work reflects the characteristics of Chagatay Turkish in terms of linguistic features, it also has the words, suffixes and phonetic features of Oghuz Turkish. In terms of spelling, the work is a text in which the dots of dotted Arabic letters are not usually used and there are different one, two, three or even four variants of the same word.
